The Department of Physics was established in A. V. college, Vasai in 1971, almost 51 years ago. The department of Physics and the Science faculty was introduced so that the students from rural areas can take education in Science and need not travel all the way to Mumbai for getting educated. The aim and objective of the Management has been truly fulfilled and the best quality education in Fundamental Physics of both Theory and Practical is available to students at very affordable fees as per government rules. The concept of Junior college (+2 Level) was introduced in 1975. Initially Prof. P. G. Sathe (who retired as Principal of our college) and Prof. Jacob both were teaching Junior college students. Later Prof. B. K. Gutte, Prof. Mrs. S. V. Kulkarni and Prof. Mohankumar M. S. maintained the legacy for many years till their retirement. Many students of the Department are highly educated in different areas and that is the best asset our Department has always looked for.

(A) Staff
- Hemant Ramakant Dongre : Head of the Physics Department (Junior college), Ex student of this college and one of the popular teachers for Physics. Teaching Fundamental Physics for the last 27 years. Has many of his past students in the field of Medicine, Engineering, Research. His practical videos were appreciated and useful during Covid times. A resource person for the subject and has conducted many sessions for the students and Teachers. He is socially active. Associated with Shantivan , (a school for 1000 students and a resident school for 300 students who have lost their parents) as a Trustee, working for Anandvan , Lok Biradari, Hemalkasa and local tribals near Manor.
He is very often invited as a Special guest, Chief Guest at many schools during Science exhibition Inauguration or Prize distribution functions, National Science Day programmes. He was a Special Guest for a National Level Conference at Pushpanjali college of Education on ‘Fostering Dynamic Learning Environments’ on 23rd Feb. 2019.
We have a very spacious and well equipped Physics Lab with the experienced dedicated faculty as well as support staff. Students enjoy performing practicals and acquire hands-on skills performing practicals. The apparatus used in the laboratory consists of many things that are made in our own lab with the support staff and are not readymade.
